Twonderings

I've been thinking a lot lately about what draws us to fandoms. Is it the magic? Is it the desire to be a part of something? Is it the inevitable hot males that squirm their way into our lives through film adaptations or the use of guitars? I suppose the draw is different for most people, but there has to be a reason why the same books, music, television shows, and movies draw so much attention. There has to be an “it” factor that brings out a spark in us Twerds and Twotters like nothing else. It surely can’t be because they are the most amazing and profound things ever created. It can’t be because we want to jump on the bandwagon (because we know that none of us ever do that). So what could it be?

Then, the answer…

I have no idea!

I have absolutely no idea why the story of an underage wizard with a know-it-all and a ginger for best friends intrigues me. And I am definitely clueless as to why a story of a 108 year old vampire that sparkles in the sun who falls in love with a mopey, ungrateful girl who jerks him around and sneaks behind his back to see her “friend” (who has a much better build than him) all the while promising it’s just a friendship, but ends up kissing is of any interest to me at all. (holyrunonsentencebatman)

All I know is that I like them, and that should be enough for people. Too many times have I had to tell a friend, a stranger, a family member that their incessant taunting of Twerds did not offend me. Why should I have to explain myself? Why is it that when a person does not like something they DEMAND an explanation from someone who does? I don’t have to tell you why I like Young Adult stories, and I sure as hell don’t expect you to start reading them just because I do, so please don’t expect us, the loud, the proud, the Twerds and Twotters, to change our minds about where our hearts are just because you think it’s silly. Well I don’t. So there.

Welcome!

(Note: I copied and pasted this from my About Me. Why re-invent the wheel?)

Hi! I'm Rachelle. I'm 26 years old. I'm married and I teach elementary school. Well, I teach children things at an elementary school. And I do it for little to no money. I'm serious. I'm practically a volunteer. They would pay us in Trident Layers if they could. Seriously.

But enough about work.

I have several fandoms that I'm a part of. You will notice that they are mostly in the fantasy genre. That may seem like some idication that my homelife is unsatisfying, but that's simply not true. Mostly.

I love me some Twilight Saga. I couldn't really tell you why. Probably because it reads on an 8th grade level and it don't have too many big words. Ha-yuck! But seriously, I love how developed the characters are. I feel as if I know each one personally. Twilight has allowed me to meet some incredible people (some of whom may be 65 year old men, but I don't judge).

The better half to my fandom is Harry Potter. Something about it...it's almost.....magical? HAHAHA...ha...ha...nevermind. I just like it a lot, okay?

I have others as well, such as Vampire Academy, True Blood, Mad Men, Glee, The Office, Reno 911, and Big Love. More on those later.

(p.s.-I don't use spell check. Sorry.)
